Sinfonietta Cracovia

The Sinfonietta Cracovia ranks among the leading Polish and European orchestras. The exceptional atmosphere of their concerts, the enthusiastic reception by the audiences, glowing reviews and, first of all, the quality of stage performances, are to confirm the sustainable development of the still young ensemble. Introducing innovative compositions including medleys of classical, electronic and even jazz music is propitious for winning new listeners of classical music.

Robert Kabara took on the artistic leadership of the orchestra in 1992. It took two years of his creative work as a leader and an artistic director to transform a group of young inexperienced musicians into a professional ensemble defined by its distinctive artistic image. The Sinfonietta Cracovia, the name of which appeared at the beginning of 1994, became a cultural institution under the patronage of the President of the City of Cracow and was granted the status of the Orchestra of the Capital Royal City of Cracow. Much tribute should be paid to the city authorities of that time as well as to Elzbieta and Krzysztof Penderecki whose decisive support contributed to the foundation of the youngest orchestra in Cracow.

Collaboration with outstanding figures of the art world has become a vital element of the concert life of the Sinfonietta. Among them are Krzysztof Penderecki, Christoph Eschenbach, Lorin Maazel, Valery Gergiev, Rudolf Buchbinder, Mischa Maisky, Pieter Wispelwey, Ilya Gringolts, Antoni Wit, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Barry Douglas, Kaja Danczowska, Irene Grafenauer or Tabea Zimmermann, to name but a few. Robert Kabara has been the director and the artistic leader of Sinfonietta Cracovia since it was established in 1994 and from that time he has been collaborating with Adam Balas, the highly qualified manager of the orchestra.
