A classical pianist since the age of 8 - the great-nephew of seven organ-playing sisters - and tutored in New Orleans piano techniques in his teens, piano understandably makes up the backbone of his work. Yet electronic interference, fuzzy glitches, Binatone samples and some sparkling production underpin the organic qualities of piano and acoustic guitar. This has earned Loner a sound of his own which gently glides beneath the rush of modern life.
"The sense of dislocation is palpable, the sense of yearning unavoidable, the need to disappear overwhelming. Loner creates an atmosphere using almost-not-there electronics, but this is far from electronica; in fairness, to tag it as anything would be to close off the infinite possibilities offered by his disconcerting vision." "Drawing on his classical training his love of electronica and his Tom Waits/Nick Cave influences to build fuzzed-up moodscapes and poetic pop vignettes that balance a melancholic core with breathy, human vocals and a very personal narrative ... very original and in places quite exceptional." DJ Magazine
"Loner have captured melancholy beauty, wrapped it in silk, put it on a pedestal and then written a guitar based homage to the wench...ethereal excellence." Blowback
"Stunningly beautiful and clever. With its organic base from the piano and acoustic guitar, there are electronics that match the most ethereal of the Aphex Twin's ambient moments ... this appeals to all with a soul and ears for tales of woe." Juice Magazine
