Ian Shaw is a brave man. With his latest album, "Drawn to All Things", the London-based singer has ventured into territory that many regard as sacrosanct, the Joni Mitchell songbook.
Shaw, though, is a lifelong admirer and as the version of Furry Sings the Blues he recorded in 1999 confirmed, he's up to the challenge. Feted on both sides of the Atlantic, Shaw came to jazz through the alternative cabaret scene. He even had a part specially written for him in Jerry Springer: The Opera. But singing in front of a jazz trio is where he shines through.
